Black August A Celebration of Hip-Hop and Our Freedom Fighters Description: "Black August is a concert film featuring Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Chuck D., Dave Chapelle, Dead Prez, Common and others as they continue a tradition began by the revolutionary thinker and author George Jackson.

For over ten years, with the help of a committed core of progressive hip-hop artist, Black August successfully raised awareness and funs for political prisoners, and used the concerts to collaborate with other grassroots organizations to raise funds for AIDS education, the victims of Hurricane Katrina and the Hands Off Assata campaign. In order to promote international cultural exchange, Black August brought artists Mos Def, Common, dead Prez, Jeru and Black Thought from The Roots to concerts in Cuba and South Africa.

The Black August Concert is a celebration of the 10th annual concert at Nokia Theatre in New York featuring its core, marquee hip-hop artists and it looks back on then years of organizing around an often unpopular issue, the challenges of smuggling artists contraband to Cuba and the history of the political prisoners MXG directly supports including former Black Panthers Sekou Odinga, Mutulu Shakur and Sundiata Acoli and the lasting influence George Jackson himself had on the hip-hop generation."
